Sports
Sports and staying fit was a very important thing to all Greeks. It was the duty of all Greek men to stay in shape in case of war. There were many kinds of different sports but they had five main sports. They were running, long jump, wrestling, throwing a discuss, and finally there was javelin throwing. But there all time favorite sport was wrestling. Almost everything was legal like finger twisting, choking and pushing. There is a couple big rules like no grabbing and biting the private parts of your opponent (Ouch!!!). They would sprinkle themselves with dust so they can hold on and grapple each other. To show who is the best in sports they would have competitions and games like the Olympics. It was good to receive an award for there individual sport. But the main goal for all athletes is to win the pentathlon which was the overall best at the five main sports. (Hamby, Zachary. "Gymnasium." Www.mythologyteacher.com. RV Sitebuilder, n.d. Democracy
Democracy was a new thing for people in ancient Greece. Greek meaning of Demo means "The people". In Athens democracy was very big thing for them. Every single person could vote at the assembly's about city issues. But it did exclude some people like free foreigners, women, and slaves. It was the duty of all Athens men at least 18 years of age to come to the assembly and vote on the important issues. It was a direct democracy not a representative democracy so they would take colored stones and put them in pots. One was marked as yes and the other was marked as no. Then they would count all the stones and decide from there. Soon many other city-states would adopt the same methods. (Hamby, Zachary. "Democracy." Www.mythologyteacher.com. RV Sitebuilder, n.d.
